Kurzfassung
The highly dynamic ionosphere has a strong effect on the performance of radio systems used in space-based communication and navigation. Especially ionospheric disturbances caused by space weather effects can degrade the accuracy, reliability and availability of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) or HF communication. The lecture provides an overview about the space weather impact on navigation as well as communication systems and services. Finally we present established and new ionospheric monitoring and forecast products, which can help to rate the performance of communication and navigation services under Space Weather disturbances.
