Kurzfassung
This thesis presents a model-based scenario analysis to achieve a climate-neutral energy supply in the Wesermarsch region of Germany. The study employs energy balance modelling to explore the feasibility and optimal pathways to transition the region to 100% renewable energy. Despite the current reliance of the region on renewable sources for 76% of its energy needs, achieving full climate neutrality remains a challenge due to the intermittency of renewable energy and the high energy demands of local industries. Using the REMix optimisation framework, this research develops a regional model to simulate various scenarios for the years 2020, 2030, and 2050. The model integrates data on local energy production, consumption, and technological parameters, including photovoltaic systems, onshore wind turbines, biomass, battery storage, and hydrogen production. It aims to minimise costs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, taking into account the interconnected nature of the regional and broader energy markets. The results highlight the potential of different renewable technologies and storage solutions to meet the region’s energy demands sustainably. The study also examines the economic implications and feasibility of these scenarios, providing recommendations for policy and future research to support Wesermarsch’s transition to a climate-neutral energy system.
