Kurzfassung
Earth observation satellites offer a powerful means to measure various environmental exposures that impact public health. We reviewed the use of these satellites in detecting and analyzing different environmental factors across the electromagnetic spectrum. Key applications include monitoring atmospheric composition and air pollution with shortwave blue light, assessing urban lighting patterns through night-time light variations, and mapping urban green spaces using red and infrared contrasts. The study also examines the correlation between urban heat islands and urban morphology, as illustrated by the historical city of Augsburg, and the use of geoinformation technologies to evaluate road traffic noise pollution in further detail. In conclusion, remote sensing data and methods provide large-scale cost efficient and reproducible approach to measuring multiple environmental exposures holistically, supporting health research in national and pan-European surveys.
