Kurzfassung
Spheres are encountered in many applications, e.g. as a canonical target for calibration of antennas and validation of computer codes or as a model of a raindrop in problems of radio wave propagation, outdoor communication and light scattering. This paper presents a uniform asymptotic solution for the field scattered by an electrically large low-absorption magneto-dielectric sphere, applicable to arbitrary values of the bistatic angle, including the case of backscattering. In addition to the asymptotic procedure, the paper addresses various applications of the theory, including anomalous backscattering from quartz glass spheres and thin dielectric shells.
