Environmental Monitoring from Space - the EnMAP Satellite Mission

The Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP) (www.enmap.org) is a new spaceborne German high-resolution imaging spectroscopy mission launched in April 2022. The sensor collects data in hundreds of spectral bands, ranging from the visible to the shortwave infrared. The primary goal of the mission is to study environmental changes, investigate ecosystem responses to human activities and monitor the management of natural resources. By measuring diagnostic parameters of environmental change, ecosystem stability, and sustainable resource use, the EnMAP mission aims to provide critical information to improve our understanding and management of the Earth System. This presentation will introduce the audience to the specifications of the EnMAP mission, give an insight into the current status and ground segment activities since the start of the operational phase in November 2022, and also show some application examples.
