Kurzfassung
The paper introduces the basics of high-resolution imaging of satellites with a ground based inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR). In addition, the experimental radar system IoSiS (Imaging of satellites in space), developed and constructed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is briefly introduced. Further on, a variety of error sources like the influence of the atmosphere on high-resolution radar images are illustrated based on system simulation results. Very high resolved, with the IoSiS system acquired ISAR images of real space objects will be shown. The presentation concludes with a vision of radar-based space situational awareness, able to do precise evaluation of objects in space based on three-dimensional radar images.
