Kurzfassung
Within the Industrial and Material Technology Programs (IMT) "Crashworthiness for Commercial Aircraft" (Framework 3), "Commercial Aircraft - Design for Crash Survivability" (CRASURV/FW 4) and "High Velocity Impact of Composite Aircraft Structures "(HICAS/FW 4) all sponsored by the European Commission (CEC) - European partners participated with numerical crash and high velocity simulation studies of metallic and composite sub-components of aircraft structures. Both - a hybrid simulation technique with DRI-KRASH as well as a Finite Element (FE) based explicit crash code PAM-CRASH were used. Based on a full-scale aircraft KRASH stick model generated within the FW 3 project, for ditching, a coupled global/local methodology was applied, where the "hydrodynamic elements" of DRI-KRASH were calibrated by PAM-CRASH simulations of the structure/fluid interaction of representative sub-structures of the airframe. Most of the simulations could be correlated with data of crash and high velocity impact tests which were performed within the programs.
