Kurzfassung
The presented paper provides an overview of DLR’s technology experiment AMoCSiS (Automated Manufacturing of Composite Structures in Space), its challenges and its opportunities for the future of space travel. This experiment should demonstrate the manufacturing of large light-weight truss structures in earth orbit. The design is based on tubes made of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) connected by additive manufactured fittings. The manufacturing processes are described and the structure assembly via robotic actuators is discussed. Furthermore, the paper shows some results of a completed CE study for the use of AMoCSiS as payload of one of the DLRs Compact Satellite missions.
