Kurzfassung
This study investigates the applicability and efficiency potential of analytical wall functions in conjunction with hybrid RANS-LES methods in two unstructured flow solvers, i.e. the compressible DLR-TAU code and the incompressible DLR-THETA code. Wall-modelled LES simulations of a periodic channel flow using IDDES confirm the validity of the wall-function approach over a broad range of grids with 12.5≤y+(1)≤210. For the more complex separated flows over a backward facing step and a wall-mounted hump, DDES simulations show that y+(1) has to be limited to 25 regardless of the flow solver, in order to achieve agreement with results using full near-wall resolution. Despite that restriction, the computing time can be reduced by up to 2/3 compared to the fully-resolved case.
