Kurzfassung
Water is quite important for life as well as the economic growth of a country. Climate change is affecting the water resources of the world. Due to dire need of water, its supply and demand are becoming very much important nowadays. Pakistan is located in arid to semiarid regions, which usually make major use of irrigation water. Water is quite important for the country because of floods in monsoon seasons and water shortages during rest of the year. This necessitates the construction of major dams in the country, for water conservation, to ensure an efficient supply of water for irrigation, domestic, industrial, and other uses. The development of modern tools like Irrigation Management Information System (IMIS), including Database Management System (DBMS) and Decision Support System (DSS), have revolutionized the monitoring of irrigation systems to ensure transparency in getting reliable data. Program Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) has been established in the Irrigation Department in order to implement efficient and optimal canal operation, oriented towards equity and transparency.
