Kurzfassung
Global climate change means that less CO2-emissions can be generated from electricity generation in Europe. For this reason, more and more use is being made of the expansion of renewable energies. Energy system models are being used to better integrate these into the existing energy system as their share increases. In France, a change in the energy system is very likely in the medium term due to the government’s upcoming plans to reduce the share of nuclear energy and expand renewable energies. In order to examine different scenarios for this change, this paper parameterizes a high-resolution energy system model for France’s electricity sector. Methods for spatial disaggregation and conversion of raw data to model input data are further developed and used. The results give an overview of the possible expansion of the power plant. The total expansion capacity and power generation as well as the spatial distribution of these are presented. The results allow the conclusion that France is able to do without parts of its nuclear power plants without having to miss its CO2-targets.
