Kurzfassung
DLR is the national aeronautics and space research center of the Federal Republic of Germany, working in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security. DLR Microwaves and Radar Institute (HR) is performing research on passive and active microwaves to develop and advance ground-based, airborne and space-borne sensors. The Institute runs long-term research programmes with applications in remote sensing, aeronautics, traffic monitoring, and reconnaissance and security. The Department of Reconnaissance and Security (AKS) is focusing on remote sensing technologies. Research is performed on space-based SAR system engineering, experimental radar and radiometer systems, signal processing, signature analysis, and microwave material science. The presentation will start with a general overview about DLR and the roots of the Institute more than a hundred years ago, giving short insight in major achievements until today. Recent and present activities are illustrated in more detail.
