Kurzfassung
The paper presents the conceptual design of the deployable booms for the GoSolAr solar array. The approach focuses on the coupled design of boom and deployment unit. Key element is the transition zone of the reelable booms between flattened and deployed state. Within this zone reduced mechanical properties lead to degradation of the overall structural performance. A parametric model of the transition Zone is established and analyzed. Based on this Analysis means to influence shape and length of the Transition zone are derived in order to maximize stiffness and strength of the deployable structure. Finally a first conceptual boom design is established for subsequent analysis and design steps.
