Kurzfassung
First computations of complete horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) are performed with THETA. Test cases are the experimental NREL phase 6 wind turbine as well as the NREL 5MW. Out of the various experimental data, the baseline case with wind velocity v=7m/s and v=10m/s are chosen. A time step study, and discretization scheme study is performed to answer questions regarding accuracy. Moreover, the impact of a modification in the projection method is investigated with the NREL phase 6 turbine. The NREL 5MW turbine is computed at rated speed in an isolated rotor configuration and regarding the tower. The tower shadowing effect is matter of investigation. Results are compared to the values published by NREL. Based on the computations with constant velocity profile, both wind turbines are computed in an ABL profile, modelled as logarithmic profile. The described modelling approach includes the adjustment of two-equation turbulence-model quantities. Following the verification of the implemented boundary layer profile and its transport through the grid, both wind turbines are computed in the defined operating conditions. The capabilities to compute horizontal axis wind turbines in atmospheric boundary layers with THETA is demonstrated successfully. Moreover, the report contains an extension to Hints on grid generation in IB 124-2015/910 and hints on programming the user.c.
