Kurzfassung
The talk presents the development of integrated interaction strategies on the basis of ambient light for assisted and automated vehicles. The ambient light consists of a 360° LED stripe installed around the driver using his peripheral visual perception to support the driver in different levels of automation by a consistent color-coded interaction design. The results of a simulator study testing two different design approaches to bring the driver back into the monitoring loop are presented. The ambient light was used to inform the driver about a change in the automation level from complete automated – no monitoring necessary (SAE level 4) to complete automation –monitoring necessary (SAE level 2). In the first design the driver was only informed about the level change while in the second design variant the driver received additional feedback on which objects were detected by the vehicle sensors. Results indicate that drivers appreciates the additional feedback an benefits from it.
