Kurzfassung
The two German synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X are in operation since more than eight and five years, respectively. Both satellites serve the TerraSAR-X mission by providing monostatic acquisitions on individual user request utilizing the full flexibility of the SAR instruments and thus enabling the wide variety of different SAR products. Furthermore, in close formation flight they form the first bistatic SAR interferometer in space providing flexible configurations for cross-track and along-track interferometry as well as further innovative SAR modes. As both satellites are still working very well and have plenty of resources left it is planned to continue the mission beyond 2015. A corresponding agreement between DLR und AIRBUS Defence & Space is in place.
