Abstract
A synthesized aperture changes the specification of a radar but it does not necessarily influence the instrument architecture nor the technology. Hence, advances in all radar fields can be taken advantage of when designing SAR-instruments. The paper addresses recent developments in instrument design and component technology and discusses their merits and drawbacks.
