Abstract

Carbon Fiber Reenforced Plastics (CFRP) are widely used in high performance strutures. Future applications demand advanced manufacturing solutions to gain high quality and performance and productivity as well as low costs. Nowdays complexe strutures can´t be produced near netshape. This results in a high afford for postprocessing and lowers the effective reachable productivity. By trimming the edge of a NCF preform with high accuracy instead of the solidified part the afford for postprocessing like mechanical treatment could be significantly reduced. A possible option with many benefits can be a automated laser cutting process. It has to be clarified wether or not the economy and quality of a part allow the application of laser beam cutting for CFRP preforms. In this paper the results of a affordability studie are given. The relevant influences have been identified and are scientifically discussed. In the end a possible scenario is evaluated wether the laser bema cutting is applicable or not.
