Abstract
In the optimization of the optical efficiency of parabolic trough collectors, the measurement of mirror slope deviation is of major importance. Based on the established distant observer method (TARMES) a new approach called QFly has been developed, which makes use of an airborne camera vehicle for image acquisition. For the first time, this enables efficient determination of the geometrical accuracy of entire solar fields. In this study a validation against a TARMES and close range photogrammetry measurement, supplemented by a detailed error analysis for TARMES and QFly, is conducted. Furthermore, the influence of measurement uncertainty on the root mean square (RMS) at panel and module level, which is used for describing optical overall efficiency, is investigated. This indicates that the measurement uncertainty of QFly at a module level is expected to be around ±0.1 milliradians.
