Abstract

The damping of the acoustic second mode instability by passive porous surfaces is shown by using a blunt 3◦ half-angle cone model. Second modes are investigated on a smooth cone and a porous cone model with micropores by linear stability theory (LST). The numerical results are compared successfully with wind tunnel measurements to validate the integrated porous wall boundary condition of the stability code NOLOT. In addition the influence of small deviations in free stream conditions, wall temperature and pore depth or radius on the Mack modes are investigated.
