Abstract

This document is focused on the description of the registration algorithms needed in order to be able to fuse the data coming from a number of ground sensors deployed on the ground vehicle and sensors onboard UAVs and satellites taking photos and other data of the battlefield beneath. The ground sensor registration should allow the pre-data fusion engine to make the transformation from a given pixel coordinate towards the corresponding geographical coordinates (e.g. Lambert coordinates, UTM coordinates, latitude -longitude coordinates or something similar) and opposite. Due to the different image acquisition methods for the different sensors, each sensor will need its own transformation. In this document it will be described how the transformation parameters can be extracted from a calibration scenario for the following systems: • Optical camera. • Infra-red camera. • Radiometer. • Radar sensor. The UAV/satellite registration georeferences the images (visible, infrared and radar SAR) taken by different sensors, bringing the pixel coordinates into geographical coordinates so that the image can be displayed on a map by using a geographic information system (GIS). This will allow the subsequent fusion with other satellite & UAV data such as traces (tactical information) and GMTI plots.
