Abstract

The paper highlights the potentials of Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) for commercial aircraft in comparison to silica fiber and copper wire. Further on, a detailed discussion on the firm environmental requirements for data communication in civil aircraft is presented. Besides, the influence of connectors and splices in the POF-communication link is evaluated.
