In order to improve knowledge about scattering processes and their effects on the backscattered signal, accurate modelling of radar backscatter is required. In this paper we present a stochastic, coherent and fully-polarimetric scattering model which simulates the propagation of an electromagnetic wave through a medium containing rain-drops of various sizes, shapes and orientations and calculates the backscattered signal. The variation in shape has only been implemented for C-band yet; the modelling in X- and Ka-band is still based on Mie-scattering and as-sumes spherical drops. First results will show the general abilities of the model.
