Monthly mean aerosol optical depth over ocean from a total of 9 aerosol retrievals is compared. Regions with large disagreement and good agreement are identified. Differences found are larger than in a previous study due to the larger investigation period and more algorithms included. Possible reasons for the differences due to inherent characteristics of the sensors and algorithms used are discussed. In depth analysis of the differences on a daily basis is needed to fully understand the differences and improve the retrievals.
