A method of lifetime approval for composite spar beams has been developed. At first, the general fatigue response of the used material components has to be evaluated. Using a FE-analysis, the critical areas of the structure are identified and the design stresses evaluated. Subsequently, a lifetime prediction with a Miners damage summation rule of the most fatigue sensitive part of the structure is done. Incorporating the correlation of variable and constant amplitude loading, the predicted lifetime may be verified with time-saving proof tests.
