Within the framework of the experimental study of the flow around the ELAC 1 configuration in the Large Low-speed wind tunnel Facility (LLF) of the German-Dutch Wind tunnel (DNW), particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements have been carried out in order to investigate vortex structures on the leeward side of the delta wing. Tracer particles added to the flow were illuminated by a pulsed laser light sheet in a plane crosswise to the main flow direction. Two CCD cameras were used to record two neighboring areas of the flow field simultaneously. Pairs of successive single-exposed images were evaluated by means of digital cross-correlation yielding two-dimensional fields of instantaneous velocity. The combined velocity fields derived from the pictures of the two cameras show nearly the whole vortex system on the port side of the delta wing.
