Removal of internal reflections and striping in MOS images - an empirical approach

Abstract

In the MOS images along track stripes and reflections of bright targets are clearly visible after standard calibration. The effect of reflection is obviously seen in images with low radiance (islands or clouds in the surrounding of water) and the high frequency stripes could be found in images with low contrast, mostly in water pixels of the near infrared channels (NIR-channels) of the MOS instrument. A technique was developed in an empirical way to remove these effects while preserving the information content (structure) of the images. The two algorithms are described and the results are shown in this paper as examples of several MOS scenes.
