Data collection strategies and the data quality vary for a given parameter among citizen science projects. This hampers the merging of different data sets and thereby the reusability of the data. Modular designed applications for mobile devices (Apps) offer a framework to foster the standardisation of data collection methods. At the same time, they keep the flexibility to adapt their deployment according to the research question(s) of interest and encourage their reuse. The currently developed App FieldMApp offers such a framework for Android and iOS. The related concept includes predefined frame functionalities and adaptable application-related functionalities. The latter are separate modules for sensor tests, basic functionalities, parameter collection and data quality management. Their interdependencies are documented in a wiki. This enables a context-based selection of functionalities. FieldMApp will be published as open-source software, which permits the extension of functionalities. The premise for such extensions is that modules are published together with smart, universally applicable data quality recording routines. We invite the conference attendees to learn more about the FieldMApp concept, its current application fields and the extension of the functionality catalogue that is exemplified by the newly implemented speech recognition module. Participants are further encouraged to elicit, which requirements such an App should fulfil from their point of view.
