Abstract

For Lake Constance a primary production (PPR) algorithm is under development to derive maps of the spatial distribution of PPR. It will be based on input parameters derived from remote sensing data that all can be provided on board of ENVISAT. The spatial distribution of chlorophyll concentration from optical remote sensing (derivable from ENVISAT/MERIS) will be a direct input into the algorithm. Additional influencing factors are the depth of the mixed layer, and the bulk temperature within the upper 4 m. Both parameters are affected by wind speed (derivable from ENVISAT/ASAR), and sea surface temperature (derivable from ENVISAT/AATSR). Synergy to other satellite sensors (METEOSAT) will be established to derive the photosythetically available radiation.
