The diving spectrometer MMS-5 is dedicated to measure the complete radiation field in water: the down-and up-welling vector and scalar irradiance and upwelling radiance: Ed, Eod, Eu, Eou, Lu These five parameters will be used in the frame of water algorithm verification. The E- and L-values are suitable to characterize the light field in water and its variation by absorption and scattering. Besides a lot of helpful apparent optical properties (AOP) like attenuation coefficient K, reflectances Rv, RRS or RSR can be also retrieved analytically the total absorption coefficient atot from the GERSHUN-Equation /1/ (1) with Eo = Eod + Eou. In an analogue way the total backscattering coefficient bbtot can be calculated from the ZANEVELD-relation /2/ for the Remote Sensed Reflectance RSR in water = (2) KL is the radiance attenuation
