Abstract

An algorithm was developed for the estimation of thin cirrus or stratospheric aerosol optical thickness over the ocean. The algorithm uses radiance measurements from the MOS-A spectrometer within the O2A-absorption band. The algorithm gives reasonable results both for volcanic aerosol layers and for thin cirrus situations.
