High resolution spectroscopy utilising a Bruker IFS 120 HR spectrometer was established at DLR during the end of the 80s. Since then extensive infrastructure has been built up regarding laboratory equipment as well as software tools. This includes cooleable/heatable single and multi-pass absorption cells (temperature range 190 - 1000 K, length 0.15 - 100 m), a flow system for generation of unstable species, capability for atmospheric absorption and emission measurements. For data reduction, among other utilities, the flexible line parameter retrieval code FitMAS (Fit Molecular Absorption Spectra) was developed. The work is focused on the gen-eration of a quality-assured spectroscopic database of atmospheric constituents. Within nationally and inter-nationally funded projects numerous species were investigated in the region from 10 to 3000 cm-1: CO, CO2, O3, ClO, Cl2O2, HOCl, ClONO2, BrO, OH, H2O, HO2, H-2O2, NO, NO2, N2O5. Validated accuracies for line strengths of 1% and for pressure broadening parameters of 2% have been established.
