Increasing the attractiveness and society's acceptance of rail transport is anchored as an important aspect within the overarching aims of the Next Generation Train (NGT). External noise emissions and internal structure-borne and airborne sound transmission, which is of relevance to passenger comfort, are currently fundamentally undesirable properties of rail vehicles. An ambitious project such as the NGT must thus place increased emphasis on the avoidance and reduction of noise and vibrations.
