This document reviews possible mission goals and issues regarding the operation of a solar- powered stratospheric sailplane. Three cat- egories of missions are identified: station-keeping, coverage, and cruise. The issues arising from the three domains of such an aircraft are discussed: solar-powered, stratospheric, sailplane. A benchmark is defined with two different mission goals and the issues to be taken into account.
