The results of experimental and numerical investigations on cargo drop tests from a generic configuration are presented. It is shown that a correct experimental scaling is difficult to ensure. The measured trajectories are used for the validation of numerical simulations. The repeatability of the tests is very good. Based on the German Aerospace Center’s hybrid Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver TAU a process chain for the coupled numerical simulation of aerodynamics and flightm echanics was developed. Its results match well the experimental data.
