Eine Assistenzfunktion zur Unterstützung des Fahrers bei der Auswahl geeigneter Lücken für Ein- und Ausfädelvorgänge

Abstract

The manoeuvres of merging onto and leaving a motorway belong to the most complex driving tasks to be found in traffic. They are characterized by a coordinated form of longitudinal and lateral driving procedures with tight temporal and spatial constraints which leads to high driver demands. This can result in driving errors and safety critical situations. This motivates the development of the Merge and Exit Assistant being deployed in a real test vehicle within the project FAMOS, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. A major element of the assistant lies in supporting the driver in detecting, evaluating and choosing adequate gaps as well as optimal positions within these gaps to assure safe and comfortable lane change manoeuvres. This article gives a detailed overview of the assistant’s functional components and demonstrates the outcomes based on test results.
