Under contract to Airbus France the DLR Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology performed a coupled CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and CAA (Computational Aeroacoustics) simulation of the A400M-Propeller at cruise flight conditions. The configuration under study, termed the A400M 15.01 cruise validation case by Airbus, is the isolated inboard propeller of the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft, which includes the nacelle with a chin-mounted inlet. The fully unsteady aerodynamic simulations were performed with the DLR TAU-Code. The results of these simulations serve as input data to the aeroacoustic analysis, which was done with the DLR APSIM-Code. The aim of the study was to determine the suitability of the numerical methods to the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic simulations of the complex flow physics of propeller propulsion systems. This report describes the approach applied by DLR to the simulation and presents the results. The validation of the numerical predictions is not covered in this report, as this was done in house at the contractor.
