Abstract

Despite the achievement of high geometric resolution in current and future space borne SAR systems, the interpretation of the collected image data is often very difficult or even impossible. SAR simulation tools are able to significantly support the understanding of SAR image effects and scattering processes. As an example, in this paper the simulation tool SAREF (SAR-EFfects) is used to overlay simulated image data of a battle ship with its signature in a TerraSAR-X high resolution spotlight image. The main goal is to demonstrate its potential for supporting users in target analysis and identification.
