Abstract
The first part of this paper describes how one of the higher services of A-SMGCS, the Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) Ground Clearances Function (TAXI-CPDLC), was implemented at two ground sites (Prague Ruzyne and Milano Malpensa) and the airborne site. It describes the basic principles and approach for the message definition and both the software and the hardware implementation into the real time simulations and on-site trials. The second part will focus on the results of the validation study that was conducted with eight commercial airline pilots at DLR's Generic Experimental Cockpit. It was demonstrated that requirements from the operational concept were mostly fulfilled. Furthermore, effects on situational awareness and workload were tested.
