Abstract

Phenomena associated with the breakup of fluid sheets resulting from the oblique collision of two equal jets with low and partly also moderate velocities were investigated. Depending on fluid properties and jet velocity the fragmentation of the sheets is caused by several different mechanisms generally triggered by aerodynamic or capillary instabilities. In the present work a comparison of the breakup behavior of various Newtonian and some Non-Newtonian fluids was conducted. The obtained results show that besides the above mentioned instabilities also viscoelastic properties seem to influence the breakup behavior of the investigated non-Newtonian fluids.
