Abstract
Climate change is a challenge to society and air traffic has a contribution of around 5% to this change. Current estimates point at an increasing importance of air traffic for climate change. The presentation will give a short overview on the current status in climate research with speial focus on the impact from air traffic. A methodology will be presented which enables the inclusion of climate issues in the pre-design of aircraft, i.e. the model AirClim. Results from European supersonic projects SCENIC and HISAC will be presented, where a commercial supersonic fleet and business jets, respectively, were analysed and optimized with respect to their inpact on climte. In an outlook, current research activities are presented, which include an intregrated modelling approach (One model from design to impact) and climate optimized routings (REACT4C).
