At the Institute of Flight Systems the software tool MATLAB/Simulink is frequently used for the modelling and simulation of flight vehicles, controller design and in the process of system identification. Over the past years several models for different kinds of aircraft were developed. Simulink allows the engineer programming of dynamic models by simply connecting signal lines between system blocks. This way of graphical programming simplifies the process of aircraft modelling. However, experience shows that if the programming is not done with some discipline the models may be unreadable and not maintainable. Solving this drawback of graphical programming is the purpose of the “Simulink Modelling Style Guidelines” presented here.
