Due to their high resolution up to 1m, daylight and weather independency and global coverage the radar satellite TerraSAR-X (TSX) is particularly suitable for many ocean and coastal applications (e.g. ship, ice, oil detection). In the paper presented here TSX Spotlight images with coverage of 10km by 10km are used to detect shallow areas and to obtain underwater topography. The effect of wave refraction is used for this application. The core of the method is analysis of sub-scenes of TSX radar images in order to obtain wavelength and direction of wave propagation from image spectra.
