Abstract

TanDEM-X (TerraSAR-X Add-on for Digital Elevation Measurements) is a bistatic SAR interferometry mission which is currently implemented as a national Earth observation mission by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and EADS Astrium GmbH. This paper presents the concept and the current status of the TanDEM-X system and its orbit formation and operational modes, provides a summary of the global acquisitions strategy and gives an overview of new SAR techniques and applications which will be demonstrated with this first bistatic SAR formation in space.
