More than 70 % of the X-SAR/SRTM data have been processed to radar images and digital height models till now. The data are available to the public with a pixel distance of 1arc-sec and come together with a height error map. Status and an overview of the processing and results are given. Several Principal investigators from all over the world have started to validate the data set and to apply it to the proposed applications. Results reported so far, are indicating that the ambitious mission has performed as expected and the performance achieved fulfills the specifications. The paper reports also about comparisons made with optical stereo DEMs, laser DEM data sets and traditional DEMs. Also some SRTM C-band products are compared and show some differences, due to the different frequencies, the different algorithms used by DLR and JPL and due to still unknown causes.
