Abstract

This paper deals with the diffraction by an impedance wedge. The solution of this problem provides us with the diffraction coefficients of edges in imperfectly conducting surfaces. In practical applications, the scattering boundary may have many edges. So, the diffraction coefficients must be calculated fast. On the other hand, accuracy requirements are typically moderate so that 1% accuracy is perceived to be sufficient. The use of available exact solutions for impedance wedges makes the calculations too time consuming and is limited to a few special cases. This paper proposes three various simple approximations for the diffraction coefficients of an impedance wedge. They make the calculations much faster, comply with the accuracy requirements, and two of them apply to the cases, in which no exact solutions are available.
