Abstract

Driver Assistance Systems for lateral control are designed to enhance comfort and safety in driving. Classical systems approach these goals but perform suboptimal in critical situations, when these systems have serious disadvantages with regard to accuracy and latency of the desired reaction. To overcome these problems rooted in the principal design of classical systems, we developed a lane departure prevention system according to behavioural principles. The system called ReflektAS is based upon reflexes. We tested ReflektAS in several studies and here we present results analysing the performance in curves in comparison to straight parts of the track. Our results show different reaction patterns depending on the curveness which result in changed duration and width of departures and driven velocities.
