A radar image product has essentially 4 types of content: the backscatter from point targets, from distributed targets, noise energy and ambiguous energy, generated by targets outside the wanted image due to instrument imperfections. The paper describes a treatment of the radiometric resolution of distributed targets taking account of the geographic position as well as the intensity of ambiguous targets. It is assumed that the mean intensity of both the noise and the ambiguities can be compensated for.
