Abstract

The A-SMGCS project EMMA represents the most significant European contribution in the years 2004 to 2008 facing the ATM airport-bottleneck-problem. It regards the A-SMGCS concept as an integrated air-ground system, thus realising the seamless integration in the overall ATM system. DLR´s Apron- and Tower Simulator (ATS) plays in important role in the project's two-phase approach with the associated different steps of maturing and validating system functions, adressing the need for flexibility and scalability in a wide range of adaptation to specific goals of development, ranging from small tests with only a subpart of the simulator involved, up to large distributed simulations with several networked facilities and the associated amount of operators.
