The article presents a short overview on the basics solidification physics behind future experiments within the Materials Science Lab (MSL) of the International Space Station, ISS, and experimental results achieved so far in the ground based research studies as well as sounding rockets. The short paper highlights the importance of solidification research to be performed in space.
